Enrichment and Residentials
Belgium 2022
Working with Hatfield Town Council and the Twinning Committee, 6 young people from Post 16 visited Merksplatz in Belgium to compete in the Special Olympics. We joined other young people with Learning Disabilities from Poland, Germany, Belgium and The Netherlands.
We travelled on the ferry from Hull to Rotterdam enjoying an all you can eat buffet, winning the quiz, watching the shows and sleeping on the boat. Once in Rotterdam we travelled on a coach over the border to Belgium. We stayed in a school with the other competitors and went to a celebration evening to commemorate the partnership between the towns.
The next day, we competed in the Special Olympics. It was an unbelievably hot day and it wasn't just the weather that was sensational - all our young people participated in events for the day with James Sanderson winning 4 Gold Medals in High Jump, Long Jump, Sprint and 300m. He became a local celebrity as the competitors from the other nations flocked round to see his medals. We also got medals in the relay and 'Tug-of-War'.
That evening we took public transport to watch a local football game - for some this was the first football match they had ever been to, the game ended KFC Zwarte Leeuw 1, Turnhout 1.
On the Sunday, we had a steady walk into Merksplatz and had Dominos Pizza in a lovely park, basking in the Belgian sun before travelling back to Rotterdam to get the ferry back to the UK as glorious Olympians!
France 2023
In May 2023, 20 young people from Post 16 went on a 4 Day residential to St Omer in Northern France.
We took a coach down to Dover and crossed the channel on a ferry, continuing the journey from Calais to our base for the residential at the Chateau D'Ebblingham.
After an exhausting first day, we went to Le Touquet, a beautiful resort on the Northern French Coast. Here we played on the beach, took a trip around the town, eat crepes and ice creams and saw the French President's Holiday Home. On the way back to the Chataeu, we called in to St Omer and had a look around the town. On the evening, we tried snails (to mixed reviews) and played tag archery.
The next day we visited Bagatelle Theme Park, enjoying the rides and rollercoasters before returning for an evening around the campfire.
After a fun-packed few days, we returned to Doncaster with memories to last a lifetime!
Karaoke @ The Blue Bell
Each term we host a Karaoke night at the Blue Bell in Hatfield, everyone is invited, even if they don't want to sing. Young people have the opportunity to socialise with their friends. The nights are getting bigger and better, with more and more of our young people attending!
Alton Towers 2024
In May 2024, 20 of the Post 16 students had a three day residential that included a day at Alton Towers.
The young people went bowling and for something to eat on the first night, we stayed at a Premier Inn, so when we returned a couple went for a drink in the Brewer's Fayre that was joined on to the hotel.
Day two saw us wake for an all you can eat buffet breakfast and then onto the coach for Alton Towers opening. We split into groups with a group of thrill seekers having a go on ALL the big rides and rollercoasters. Another group pushed themselves out of their comfort zone and tried some new rides, and mostly loved them whilst the thrid group had a lovely day exploring CBeebies land and some of the other areas of Alton Towers.
When we got back after a busy day, we had an evening meal in the Brewer's Fayre before retiring to bed for a well earned sleep.
The next morning, it was more breakfast buffet and back to school!
